Congress delays Medicare cuts

April 30, 2010

Congress has approved legislation that delays the looming 21 percent physician cut in Medicare reimbursements until May 31.
The cut had been in effect since April 1.
The provision postpones, at least temporarily, a reduction in physician payments mandated by the sustainable growth rate formula.
Congress is expected to take up legislation to extend the current payment rate until Oct. 1. The House and the Senate have passed separate bills extending the rate, but negotiations are continuing about how to pay for it.
