Merrimack River Natural History Tour

August 22, 2009

Enjoy the peaceful beauty of one of the top five bird watching sites in North America! We will cruise around the harbor area looking at the city’s many historic buildings before heading down to the mouth of the Merrimack River. We expect to see some of the Ospreys that nest in the local area, as well as Great Egrets and Snowy Egrets. We will then cruise through the Plum Island Basin on the lookout for waterfowl and herons. This event will take place rain or shine unless there are thunderstorms. The decision will be made the day before based on the forecast. You can call the Joppa Flats Ed Center at 978-462-9998 the day before the event or after 8:30am on the day of the event in case of iffy weather. You will want to bring snacks and weather appropriate clothing. We recommend hats and sunscreen, warm layers with a jacket or sweatshirt for cooler sea breezes. Walking shoes are fine; flip flops are not recommended.
